What do you do at your present job?

Since graduating from UC Davis in 2015, I have been working as a coordinator for the Full Circle Project program at Sacramento State. The Full Circle Project is a graduation and retention program for first generation Asian and Pacific Islander students. I like that I get to interact daily with students, manage the department’s budget and assist with writing and collecting data for grant proposals. Specifically interning for Dr. Suad Joseph as an undergraduate research assistant piqued my interest in research! In addition to working, I am also pursuing a Master of Public Policy & Administration program at Sacramento State. In the future, I hope to work as a fiscal policy analyst, or some type of research analyst.

How did your education at UC Davis prepare you for your job?

There are so many unique majors and interesting courses! I think just being surrounded by passionate professors and students who also love learning has made my own education experience at UC Davis very memorable. I love how the courses challenged me and out of my comfort zone. As a result, I learned to build relationships with my professors, peers and staff. My education and overall experience at UC Davis has prepared me for my job by teaching me the value of continuing to learn, ask more questions, explore and take initiatives.

Are there any classes or programs you found particularly helpful?

I would say if it is possible, try taking general education (GE) courses in topics you are not familiar with, or even try enrolling alone without any friends. I did this a lot and got to meet new people, and learned how to depend on myself. 

What advice do you have for current students?

Take this opportunity to challenge yourself, learn new ideas and interact with different people. The more involved you are, the more meaningful your education journey will be at UC Davis.
